Whether your goal is to live lighter, be closer to the city or just have a change of scene, moving from a suburban house to an apartment is a big change. The limited space of apartments, especially if they're fully-furnished, mean you can't necessarily have all of your possessions with you. But how do you decide what to load onto the removalists' truck? Living in an apartment is a very different lifestyle to living in a house.

There's a lot of things that a house requires that you won't need for your apartment. Apartment buildings should look after you so you can get on with living your life. Not having to worry so much about the state of the outside of the house or whether you need to replace the roof tiles is one of the major perks of living in an apartment.

A house is something malleable; all that space is just waiting for you to leave your mark. Maybe you're moving to settle down with a family, because of work, or just for a change of scene. Regardless of the reason, you're going to find yourself with a lot more space than you're used to, which is going to need to be filled with your furniture and belongings.

Another important consideration is the type of community you would prefer to live in. If you're single, you may prefer to live in the city and be conveniently located to a variety of restaurants, exciting nightlife, and cultural outlets. If you're moving a family from a house to an apartment, it may make more sense for you to stay in the suburbs due to school affiliations.
